With a different beach for every day of the year, on the island of Antigua, life really is a beach but if you can tear yourself away from your towel, you'll soon discover that there's a distinct English accent to this Caribbean island with its narrow roads, candy-coloured villages and fine historic sites
1. SHIRLEY HEIGHTS
A restored military lookout and gun battery, today the lookout is a hot spot for Sunday evenings, with its superb views and authentic Caribbean punches, from 10pm each Sunday you can expect an evening of great barbecue cuisine, spectacular sunsets and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
2. STINGRAY CITY
Feed, pet and swim with the friendly stingrays in calm waters, then come nose to nose with tropical fish while snorkelling around a coral reef.
3. BARBUDA ISLAND
Undeveloped and simply stunning, the island of Barbuda is one of those few islands that seems entirely deserted at times. Famous for its unique pink sands, the island is accessible by flight or ferry and is perfect for long day trips relaxing on the sands.
4. BEACHES BY BOAT
Antigua has over 365 beaches and on one island, that is a lot of beaches to choose from. The best way to see the island is from aboard their many catamaran cruises which include stop offs at the most beautiful and secluded beaches on the island.
5. NELSON’S DOCKYARD
The world’s only Georgian-era dockyard that is still very much in use, the dockyard is a haven for history buffs. Located in scenic English Harbour, hours can be passed watching the yachts go by and following the nature trail to Fort Berkeley.
Antigua’s English Harbour area is the yachting capital of the Caribbean and billionaire’s mega yachts often moor up outside South Point, a stylishly contemporary hotel located right on the marina. It’s the perfect place to spend Sailing Week and the Yacht Regatta. It’s also a great base from which to enjoy the numerous restaurants, bars and cafes, plus the island’s most popular nightlife - from fine dining at Catherine’s Cafe to King’s Casino and Abracadabra, an elegant Italian eatery which transforms into a pulsating outdoor nightclub.
Loved for its refined rusticity, guests will be thrilled with the additions of a lagoon-side spa, a fine dining restaurant and beachfront suites. Yet the three-quarter-mile beach is still definitely the prize here, lined by a panoramic oceanfront deck and the beachfront rooms.
