Discover species found nowhere else on earth, on an island that is unmissable

Nowhere else really compares to Madagascar which is why it keeps drawing people in

An island paradise like nowhere else in the world, Madagascar is a must for anyone who lives for a bit of adventure. With unrivalled animal and plant life coupled with magnificent and varied scenery, Madagascar is a truly exceptional destination.

Natural wonders

Madagascar is home to a multitude of unique wildlife, each species as impressive and awe-inspiring as any on earth, and some of which can be found only here. These include some incredible creatures such as the Malagasy leaf-nosed snake and the bright red tomato frog. Colourful chameleons are among the most weird and wonderful animals to be seen, while perhaps the most famous, and most often associated with Madagascar, are lemurs. A trip to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park gives visitors an opportunity to see the loud and boisterous Indri lemurs, whose strange calls make for a unique experience. If that’s not enough, you can also catch a glimpse of the iconic ring-tailed lemurs at Berenty Reserve in the south of the island.

Aside from the animals themselves, the landscapes they inhabit are equally breathtaking. Madagascar provides something for every outdoor enthusiast - the canyons, gorges and plains of Isalo National Park, the dense jungles and rainforests, and world-class beaches such as those in Masoala National Park, where pristine white sand meets the brilliant blue ocean. Dreamy islands dotted off the coast, particularly Nosy Be and Île Sainte-Marie, are even more heavenly. Visitors can tour through marine and nature reserves, wander vanilla plantations and stroll kilometres of trails.

Action and adventure

Whilst soaking up the variety of stunning surroundings Madagascar has to offer, why not get even closer to nature by sampling some activities? Diving and snorkelling gives visitors a chance to explore the fifth largest coral reef in the world, as well as the astonishing wildlife inhabiting it. If you’d rather stay on dry land, hiking through Marojejy National Park gets you into the thick of the rainforest, complete with waterfalls and epic views of the Marojejy Massif mountains. Anakao is another idyllic beach destination, where boats made from tree trunks float serenely on the crystal clear water. Here, you can get close to nature on a whale-watching trip, where vast humpback whales can be spotted cruising the ocean. The tall limestone peaks of the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park are an otherworldly sight, and visitors can explore them using an intricate network of walkways, bridges and ladders.

Cities and culture

Whilst Madagascar’s major draw is its incredible wildlife and natural beauty, its capital, Antananarivo, is not to be missed. Wander its winding alleyways and buzzing street markets to get a feel for the city and its way of life. Another cultural highlight is Ambohimanga, a royal city and Unesco World Heritage Site which remains a sacred and spiritual place for many people.
