St. Barths

French Flair

Captivating beauty

A treasure trove of soft sands, coral reefs and azure blue waters

Those lucky enough to visit St. Barths find themselves captivated by its breathtaking beauty and charm. The laid-back Caribbean lifestyle blends seamlessly with the island’s chic, modern feel, where relaxed beach days, fine dining and designer shopping is always on the agenda. It’s a place where exclusive yacht clubs sit side by side with wooden cottages, and visitors are left wanting to return again and again.

The beaches

With 14 beaches to choose from, St. Barths has something for everyone. If you’re looking for a secluded, palm-fringed beach where aquamarine water gently laps the shoreline, then Marigot Beach, Saline Beach, Gouverneur Beach and Flamands Beach are the perfect choices. Colombier Beach, also known as Rockefeller’s Beach, is a popular picnic spot, while Anse des Cayes Beach and Toiny offer the ideal conditions for surfers. Wherever you decide to hang your hammock during the day, Shell Beach is the place to head for a spectacular sunset. Watch the lights dance on the sparkling ocean as you sip a chilled mojito at one of the beachside cafés.

During the day

A stroll around the harbour of Gustavia, the main town of St. Barths, will take you past stylish boutiques, jewellery stores that sparkle with diamonds, and sleek yachts moored in pretty harbours. The waterfront is bustling with cafés, bars and restaurants and is ideal for a spot of people-watching. For a truly relaxing experience, head to one of the island’s excellent spas and wellbeing centres and choose from a wide range of invigorating massages and exquisite treatments.

If you want to learn more about the marine life, an excursion on a submersible will open up a wonderful underwater world of green sea-turtles, barracudas, butterfly fish, parrotfish, angelfish, snappers, blue tangs and stingrays. There’s also the chance to see pelicans nesting in their natural habits at the Marine Park.

At the end of the day

St. Barths’ cuisine is an eclectic range covering everything from French gastronomy and fine dining, to traditional Creole dishes. Creative and inspiring cuisine from some of the world’s finest chefs, lovingly prepared with care and attention, is on offer at many of the upmarket restaurants and luxury hotels in St. Barths. For an authentic taste of the Caribbean, don’t miss the chance to try popular island dishes, such as stuffed crab or fish, christophine (a local dish using squash and cod), and accras (deep-fried fish fritters). After dinner, head to one of the island’s popular night spots and dance the night away, with a range of sleek clubs and casual beach bars to choose from.
