There is an abundance of activities to choose from on and around Lake Geneva. The area has two famous towns: Thonon-les-Bains and Évian-les-Bains. The latter has thermal baths with mineral water of worldwide fame, a pretty harbour and shoreline and a Masters golf club to test your handicap on.

Thonon-les-Bains is a spa town with monuments, the Chablais museum, a rich religious heritage to explore and hilltop gardens in the upper part of the town. Below is a pretty fishing village and harbour to stroll around.

Despite being miles from the sea, you can have the best of both worlds at Lake Geneva, with water and mountains on the doorstep. In the summer, temperatures can easily reach the mid-twenties so sunbathing and swimming can be on the agenda like any other beach holiday. Many of the beaches have amazing facilities for you to make the most of your time there.

Activities for all

If you’re feeling active, then there are a multitude of water sports to take part in like water skiing, snorkelling, wakeboarding and sailing. If you’d rather get above the water, then paragliding and parachuting will give you unrivalled panoramic views of the Chablais Alps and beyond to Mont Blanc.

Alternatively, the foothills of the Chablais Alps have countless walk options or head to the 2,000m peaks for some adventurous options. Stop off at a village for some delicious local snacks or sip coffee at the edge of the lake with a good book in hand.

A holiday to Lake Geneva isn’t all about the action though. This area of France was a strategic location in the 14th century for many reasons, so there is also an abundance of historical monuments. For a cultural fix, visit the likes of Yvoire Castle and St Pancrace Church.
