Set among these verdant surroundings is the Wat Phu World Heritage Area, home to the impressive Khmer ruins nestled on the mountainside. This religious site features promenades, pavilions and courtyards, complete with ornate statues and carvings, notably the unique ‘elephant stone’ and ‘crocodile stone’. These magnificent ruins combined with the dramatic location make for a truly mystical experience.

Action and adventure

For those seeking an adrenaline boost during their trip to Laos, Vang Vieng is somewhere not to be missed. Surrounded by idyllic vistas starring imposing cliffs, luscious fields and the glittering Nam Song river, the area is packed with potential for activities. Climbing, zip-lining and tubing on the river are just some of the pursuits on offer, while cycling is a great way to explore the area at your own speed.

Across Laos, zip-lining is a popular pastime for daredevils and thrillseekers. Fly through dense jungle canopies in the Nam Kan NPA amongst a myriad of wildlife, or over a stunning Mekong waterfall.

Vientiane is a charming city on the banks of the Mekong river, home to an eclectic mix of people and cultures. This slow-paced city is definitely somewhere to relax.
