Halkidiki Luxury Holidays

Abundance of Beaches

Turquoise Shores

Greek coastal idyll

Halkidiki, or Chalkidiki, in Northern Greece is a beach lover’s paradise with golden sands on all three of its mini peninsula legs, surrounded by gorgeous, lush greenery and their shores lapped by turquoise waters. You’ll find vibrant coastal resorts beyond the beaches, as well as vineyards, ancient monuments and a landscape begging to be explored by bike or viewed from the water by boat or kayak.

Highlights

You could spend an entire holiday going from beach to beach in this part of Greece. The sand here is known for being soft and the water for being crystal clear. The Kassandra Peninsula is the most developed and is home to the best-known beaches including Sani and Hanioti, while the Sithonia Peninsula isn’t as tourism driven but has a treasure trove of hidden coves to discover. With an abundance of beautiful greenery surrounding the golden sands, wandering away from the shore is pleasant and leafy.

Even the most avid sunbather and ocean paddler can get twitchy for more and Halkidiki doesn’t disappoint when the urge to explore kicks in. Take to the inland portion of Kassandra to cycle beautiful pine routes. Most major roads hug the coastline so enjoy some peace and quiet within this inland greenery. You are sure to get your heart rate up with the notorious ‘camel’s hump’ in the middle, but it’s all worth it for the stunning views at the top. If your muscles are aching after all this, head to the thermal baths on Kassandra where the naturally warm spring waters have been known to help ease tensions and even minor skin conditions.

If you fancy taking in some history, a visit to the Athos Peninsula and the monasteries that have stood for centuries as the spiritual capital of the orthodox Christian world is a must-do. Women are not allowed inside and men only with written permission, but a boat trip will afford great views of the magnificent buildings perched on the coastline and allow you a taste of the prayerful atmosphere that surrounds the area.

The seas around Halkidiki are ideal for swimming and kayaking but you can also go diving and discover a colourful world of fish and anemones beneath the surface. After building up an appetite, dine in one of the many seafood restaurants in the area, with the locally sourced catch of the day as fresh as it gets. Or head to the inland bulk of Halkidiki where you can find vineyards offering home grown wine and olives and take the opportunity to explore Petralona Cavern, home to one of the richest collections of fossils in Europe.
