Sand River Selous, Nomad Tanzania

Sand River Selous, Nomad Tanzania

Located on the banks of the majestic Rufiji River, Sand Rivers Selous offers guests the ultimate in safari experiences, as well as relaxing, waterside life. The selection of lodges available offer the ultimate in comfort and luxury, and your stay at the Sand Rivers Selous can be just as exhilarating or as serene as your heart desires.

Bringing the outside in

The philosophy behind the interior decor of Sand Rivers Selous is to bring the natural world inside. This is achieved by ensuring rooms are flooded with natural sunlight, while fresh African breezes cool the rooms and soothe the soul. Five en suite Riverside Rooms are open-fronted, offering visitors sweeping views over the Rufiji River. Three Hillside Suites, meanwhile, feature dedicated living and dining areas, with wraparound decks and private plunge pools. Guests at Sand Rivers Selous also share a spacious, open-air lounge and dining area, vast decks and a large swimming pool with river views.

A safari experience with a difference

Sand Rivers Selous specialises in offering safaris that are a little out of the ordinary. Think spotting eagles while lying on a sandbar, seeing hippos close up, clambering up to treetop hideouts and traversing the length of a sandy river. Walking safaris are much loved by the guides at Sand Rivers Selous, as they afford visitors the opportunity to observe fauna mostly unseen. Exploring by river is another popular pastime, and hippos, pelicans and elephants are among the main draws.

Guided by experts, guests can also enjoy breakfast by a river inhabited by crocodiles, take a boat trip up Steiglers Gorge and swim in warm water rock pools. Led by Sand Rivers Selous staff, residents may wish to experience the natural wonder of fly camping, sleeping in the wilderness under the twinkling African night sky. It’s a safe, authentic experience you’re certain never to forget.
