The Maharajas' Express is a train owned and operated by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). It aims to provide a unique experience as well as unparalleled luxury to visitors from all over the world who are seeking an authentically Indian experience. The service has received the ‘World's Leading Luxury Train’ award for five year in a row at the World Travel Awards, and has taken guests on unforgettable journeys to exciting destinations which give an insight into the incredible country of India.

 

Fit for a Maharaja

A Maharaja is an Indian monarch and everything about the train is truly fit for a king. Features include oversized beds decorated with jewels, en-suite bathrooms and even cabins that can rival the best luxury hotel suites - along with service that is simply exemplary, including the use of a butler. To travel on the Maharajas’ Express is not only to complete a journey, but to experience the most luxurious lifestyle imaginable. Journeys vary in duration from around four days to a week, during which guests from across the globe get to experience the highlights of this vast and most fascinating country.

A feast fit for a King

Guests on board this deluxe Indian train enjoy meals consisting of all kinds of world class cuisine, accompanied or followed by mineral water, fine wine, a selection of beers and spirits that are served in cut crystal glassware. Service is impeccable - polite and attentive - and the settings of the Peacock and Haveli restaurants and Safari car are plush, palatial and convivial.

Express routes

There is a choice of journeys to take on the Maharajas’ Express. The ‘Treasures of India’ route allows you to explore the capital, the Taj Mahal, go tiger-spotting and marvel at the original Indian ‘pink city’ of Jaipur as you travel from Delhi to Agra, Ranthambore and Jaipur. Longer trips, meanwhile, allow you to take in destinations like Mumbai, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Varanasi.

When to travel
Generally speaking the best time to visit is between November and March, with the monsoon season running between July to October in the south and July to September in the North.
How to get there
British Airways and Jet Airways fly to Delhi and Mumbai, Virgin Atlantic fly to Delhi. You can reach Cochin with Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways via Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha respectively. Goa is serviced via Doha on Qatar Airways or via Bombay on Jet Airways.
