Bungaraya Island Resort & Spa, Malaysia

Bungaraya Island Resort & Spa, Malaysia

Bungaraya is a sheltered island getaway, lying just off the coast of Borneo. This deluxe hideaway is in a hillside location overlooking Polish Bay, Gaya Island. The resort is tucked away among acres of tropical rainforest, with Bornean style, hibiscus-clad villas that overlook a pristine, white sand beach. The resort features a decadent spa, delicious, refined dining and an underground wine cellar bar.

Bornean Hibiscus

Bungaraya features 48 villas, all named after the various species of hibiscus that can be spotted among the grounds. The private dwellings were constructed along traditional Bornean lines, and range in size and specification from Treehouse and Plunge Pool Villas to Two or Three-Bedroom Deluxe Suites. The Royal Villa is the resort’s showpiece and features a designer kitchen, separate dining and living areas plus two bedrooms and two plunge pools. This villa is also staffed by a housekeeper, chef and butler to cater for your every whim. As a minimum, all villas contain luxury linens, premium toiletries, LCD TV, DVD and Bose stereo, plus air conditioning and a private balcony.

Longhouse dining and drinking

Dining and drinking options at Bungaraya include the Longhouse, Pantai Restaurant and Bar, the Longhouse Wine Cellar and private dining, which can be taken within the confines of your own deluxe villa. Meals make use of local as well as international influences, and all dishes are prepared with the utmost care and attention. Pantai is a relaxed beachside venue specialising in freshly grilled meat and seafood lunch and dinner dishes. By night, the wine cellar is the perfect spot for an intimate evening and also has an outdoor patio.

A fusion spa

The Echo Wellness Spa is a particular highlight of the resort. Treatments such as facials, body scrubs and massages are delivered by skilled therapists, using various indigenous plant-based ingredients and combining Asian and Western spa styles.
