Alila Fort Bishangarh

Alila Fort Bishangarh

Alila Fort Bishangarh is a breathtaking property in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and makes the ideal base for a visit to the famed ‘pink city’ - one of India’s biggest tourist attractions. The hotel sits atop a granite hillock within the Aravalli Hills, and has been created by converting a 230-year-old warrior fort into a one-off, historic landmark property, surely making it one of India’s most memorable hotels.

The Pink City

Fort Bishangarh lies within the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Maharaj Jai Singh II, the state ruler, founded Jaipur in 1727. Previously Rajasthan’s capital had been Amber, which is sited under seven miles away, but Jaipur became India’s first planned city when it replaced Amber. It was not, however, until 1876 that it became the ‘pink city’, when it was painted pink preceding a visit by the prince who would later be crowned as King Edward VII.

Fort rooms and suites

Accommodation at the fort comprises a selection of rooms and suites. A typical, well-appointed room is spacious in size and features dark wood furnishings contracting against pale linens, light and bright marble floors and a stunning feature window from which you can see mountains or countryside. Amenities include LED TV, WiFi, air-conditioning, safe, mini bar and a generously sized bathtub.

Silk Road inspired cuisine

Amarsar is a restaurant specialising in cuisine inspired by the legendary silk road route. It is one of Jaipur’s most well-liked restaurants, and as popular with families as it is couples and groups. The venue is open all day, beginning with Thala or a la carte breakfast, while the lunch and dinner menus feature international dishes as well as those with a silk route influence.
