Geejam

This cool hideaway, twinned with Trident is a favoured resort for rock stars and artists. Pop icon Grace Jones summed up her Geejam experience by writing in the guestbook: ‘I came. I saw. You conquered me!’ Gwen Stefani recorded here and gave it a credit at the 2003 Grammy Awards. Whether for recording sessions, honeymoons or a fleeting escape, Geejam fuses Jamaican flair with superlative service, offering all the comforts of home as well as being a gateway to authentic Jamaican culture.

Located on 6 acres of the lush San San Estate, Geejam stretches from the foothills of the John Crow and Blue Mountain chains to the Caribbean and is nestled in the natural beauty of the bush. Geejam’s 7 double rooms comprise 3 deluxe cabins, a suite, and a self-contained three-bedroom villa and there’s also a spa, swimming pool, gym, the cutting edge recording studio, plus the trademark Bushbar, dubbed one of the ‘top ten most fascinating places to hang out’.

The Bushbar and villas all adhere to the Geejam concept of a grassroots approach to relaxation, restoration and reinvention, offering a balance between state of the art technology and the grace of island living. Sanwood, the original villa, was designed by renowned British architect Anthony Wade in the late 1960s and has a distinctively stylish nautical theme. The main room doubles as a media lounge, featuring an audio/visual library and a private photographic and pop art collection from Geejam aficionados Banksy and Juergen Teller amongst others. Drum & Bass, the signature suite, housed on the ground floor of the recording studio, features Brazilian cherry wood panels that turn the room into a virtual outdoor veranda. Jamaican and Asian influenced dishes are served in the Bushbar, accompanied by the ambient sound system with the added attractions of outdoor pool table and a forest-to-ocean view.

In contrast, the natural cove of Geejam Beach, historically called Mack Bay, was a landing point for boats carrying the coconut harvest and Coco Walk, the old road leading from the waterfront still evokes a bygone age.
