Turkey Luxury Holidays

East Meets West

Beloved by travellers this exotic country offers a rich history and stunning coastline.

From bewitching cities, through ancient ruins, to idyllic beaches there is much to explore.

Flanked by the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, Turkey is famed as a land of contrasts. From its ancient past as a stopping off point along the Silk Road, to its present as a vibrant hub of creative energy, Turkey is truly a place where east meets west, and ancient history meets the contemporary flair. There is plenty to see, sample and enjoy on luxury holidays in Turkey.

A classicist’s dream

The port city of Ephesus is one of Turkey’s most famous attractions. Ephesus was once a thriving trading city, while the Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its ruins can now be visited by travellers hoping to get a sense of what ancient life was once like.

In the capital, Istanbul, the Byzantine dome of Aya Sofya scratches the cobalt sky. This vast mosque features remarkable mosaics, marble pillars and the famous Weeping Column, famed for its healing properties. The royal residence of Topkapı Palace was built in an Ottoman style. This impressive monument with its intricate series of courtyards was home to Ottoman sultans in the 15th century. Nowadays, visitors marvel at the intricate stonework and stunning views of the Bosporus from the restaurant’s terrace.

A culinary cornucopia

Given its rich and eclectic history, it is no surprise that Turkish cuisine draws inspiration from around the Middle East and the Mediterranean. Meze platters are firm favourites, featuring home pressed olive oil and falafels. Turkish kebap is also a traditional dish. The warm year-round sun lends itself to crops of fresh vegetables and herbs. Seafood from the surrounding waters is popular. Wine is locally made, Rakı is a favourite local aniseed-flavoured spirit, and Turkish coffee is an experience not to be missed.

Outlandish landscapes

From its verdant olive groves to the blue hues of the Kaçkar Mountains, Turkey’s diverse topography is sure to delight any traveller. The remarkable Cappadocia is certainly a site to behold. These soft holey rock formations look as if they are as light as air. The UNESCO World Heritage site of Göreme National Park are home to these rock formations and secret caves that have to be seen to be believed. The adventurous might decide to spend the night in one of Cappadocia's cave hotels which are carved into the rocks. Hiking up to the higher points afford panoramic views over the otherworldly landscape.

Picture-perfect beaches

For travellers looking for a bit of relaxation in Turkey, head to the coast. Some of the most beautiful beaches are to be found along Turkey’s southwest coast along what is called the Turkish Rivera. Here, pebbled beaches, golden sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters abound. Patar beach, in this area is one of the more unspoilt beaches along the Mediterranean. Further afield, the Blue Lagoon of Ölüdeniz is a firm favourite with travellers of all ages. Chill out with a book on the soft sand, dip your toes in the calm blue waters, have a go at paragliding off the Babadag mountains, or treat yourself to a world-famous Turkish bath.
