Just a short flight from the UK and with a wealth of things to see and do, it’s easy to understand why Spain is such a popular holiday destination.

At Azure, we make sure our luxury holidays in Spain cater for the discerning traveller. Whether you’re after a high-end family-friendly resort or an adults-only retreat, a relaxing beach break or an action-packed adventure, we’ve got you covered.

Andalucia

Seen by many as the heart and soul of Spain, Andalucia is known for its fiestas, flamenco, lively tapas bars and the heady scent of orange blossom that fills the air in spring. Home to historical cities, sleepy villages and beautiful stretches of coastline, it’s the ideal place for a luxurious break. Thirty percent of the land in this region is environmentally protected and nature lovers can keep a look out for wildlife including Iberian lynx, ibex and bearded vultures.

Highlights include Marbella with its famous beaches and stylish restaurants, the historical town of Ronda, which is perched on a hilltop and offers spectacular views, and the pretty, whitewashed village of Gaucín bordering the Serranía de Ronda mountain range. Puerto Banús is a superb visitor spot too. This marina located to the south-west of Marbella boasts stylish shops and an impressive entertainment centre. No wonder it’s a hit with international celebrities.

Majorca

With its undeniable charm and unique sights and attractions, the Balearic island of Majorca is popular with holidaymakers year-round. This picturesque destination in the Mediterranean, complete with its sandy beaches, soulful towns and stunning mountains, has plenty to offer the discerning traveller and is home to some of the best 5 star hotels in Spain. A must-see is the artistic, laidback village of Deia in the north-west of this island. Its striking stone houses are surrounded by terraced hillsides, olive trees and citrus orchards, and it makes the ideal base from which to enjoy a range of activities, including cycling and sailing.

Food and drink

The best way to get a flavour of Spain is in the literal sense - its food. Sample the famous tapas, which consists of an array of small dishes often served with drinks in bars. Paella is a favourite dish, made with either chicken or seafood. For vegetarians, there’s traditional bean stews and salads, or the ice-cold gazpacho tomato soup. Spain is also known for its fine dining, with some of the best European chefs serving Michelin-star quality dishes in cities like Barcelona and Madrid.

As a major wine-producing country, don’t miss the chance to visit Spain’s vineyards and sample some of its best wines. Other popular drinks include a fruit-laced glass of sangria and cava, which is known as the Champagne of Spain.

History and culture

Spain has a rich culture, which is evidenced by its architecture. Barcelona in particular has a variety of historic buildings, from 14th-Century cathedrals to the whimsical creations of Gaudi. The city is also home to a number of museums dedicated to two of the most famous Spanish artists - Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró.

Music and dancing are a big part of Spain’s culture and traditions too. Be sure to enjoy the exciting beats and sounds of flamenco music and dancing during your stay.
