Taj Exotica Resort & Spa

An outstanding addition to the award-winning Taj Group of Hotels, this member of the ‘Leading Small Hotels of the World’ takes full advantage of its setting in one of the largest lagoons in the Maldives. Most of it is stilted over crystal clear waters, its pampered guests able to enjoy panoramic seascapes whether relaxing upon their terraces, surrendering to soothing treatments in the spa or enjoying Mediterranean specialities in the over-water restaurant.

It consists of just 62 palm-thatched villas, each one striking the perfect balance between rustic appeal and fine living. Natural fabrics and polished timbers establish their stylish ‘at one with nature’ ambience and whilst six of them hug the edge of the beach and boast private plunge pools and the option of two bedrooms, most of them are stilted above the lagoon and offer direct access into the water from furnished sun decks. Some are double units, whilst others stand alone and all now come complete with plunge pools - perfect for couples seeking a little quality time alone together. The two-bedroom Presidential Villa Suite even boasts its own freshwater pool suspended over the lagoon, as well as a private sundeck and two outdoor salas for relaxation, dining or spa treatments.

These high standards are reflected throughout every aspect of the resort. Two à la carte restaurants, The Deep End and 24 Degrees, serve anything from fresh seafood and local delicacies to Pan Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, the romantic ambience enhanced by the lagoon views. Or why not choose your own ‘special’ spot on the island and dine à deux beneath the stars, the Equator Bar there for when you’re back in the mood for socialising over a glass of wine from the new world.

The infinity-edge swimming pool, PADI dive-centre and water sports such as windsurfing, snorkelling and sailing combine with the sunset cruises, big game fishing and sea plane trips to ensure enough amusement for everyone. But when you simply want to do nothing at all the Taj Spa awaits, located at the far end of the island and a veritable tropical sanctuary complete with a Yoga and Meditation Pavilion, over-water couples suites and a unique Royal Indian Mud and Bathing Pavilion. And if all that is still not quite enough for you, the resident Ayurveda physician will help you re-discover your inner self through holistic Indian therapies.
