With an interesting past that includes a number of years as a pirates’ lair, Denis Island welcomes a more refined kind of guest to its pristine shores nowadays. Indeed this 375 acre private coral island has everything the discerning traveller looks for today - that is, a discreetly luxurious hotel that makes the minimum impact on its natural surroundings. The 24 roomed hotel is located on the island’s extreme north-west tip, giant tortoises, rare birds and plenty of marine life calling it home, its natural turquoise lagoons guarded by coral reefs.
All of the newly-refurbished cottages lie near to the shoreline, each one boasting its own private stretch of beachfront complete with inviting sun loungers. Their natural tones and textures are enhanced by local Creole architecture, whilst comforts include iPod docking stations,mini-fridges and bathrooms that include indoor twin jet and outdoor showers in a private courtyard. Their terraces are the perfect venues for relaxing with a sundowner after a day spent in the great outdoors - you can go on nature walks, take a fishing trip, learn how to scuba-dive, play a set of tennis, enjoy a wide variety of non-motorised water sports or, of course, simply ignore it all and have an in-room massage or sunbathe on the white coral sands.
Punctuating every day are the delicious meals of the main restaurant. The array of freshly-caught seafood, marinated meats, exotic salads and fresh vegetables from the hotel’s own farm offer a fusion of tastes that can also be enjoyed by candlelight on the beach or in the privacy of your villa.
