Sandals Grande St. Lucian spa & beach resort

This rather glamorous tropical playground might qualify as the latest in the trio of Sandals resorts in St. Lucia, but it has managed to bag itself one of the best locations in the north of the island. It sits on a manicured peninsula flanked by an excellent white sand beach and offers sweeping views that touch upon anything from cone-shaped mountains and yacht-sprinkled Rodney Bay to the open Caribbean Sea and far-off Martinique.

And although its colonial-style buildings are no taller than one of the island’s ubiquitous coconut palms, all of the 300 rooms and suites deserves the tag line ‘room with a view’. Water views are standard throughout, as are two-metre deep private verandahs from which best to appreciate them. Romantic four-poster beds are also part of the deal here, but check yourselves into a Rondoval Suite if you like the idea of your own private plunge pool or a Lagoon Roomif your idea of holiday heaven is stepping into a swimming pool that wanders past your verandah. Depending upon which grade of room you book, you can also take advantage of your own dedicated butler and who doesn’t appreciate help with the unpacking, not to mention rose-scented baths?

Of course, the recreational facilities here are also suitably impressive. There are no less than five different swimming pools including a meandering lagoon pool, an expansive vanishing-edge pool and a main pool with its own tower where you can relax with a cocktail and wait for the sun to set. There’s all the usual water sports, tennis and fitness
facilities, as well as first-class scuba-diving and a highly-rated Red Lane spa. Golfers can also take advantage of complimentary green fees on the nearby 9-hole course at Sandals Regency St. Lucia.

A similar reciprocal arrangement is also in place when it comes to dining, guests able to sample a total of nine other restaurants at nearby sister resorts. Yet why bother too much when you have already got six enticing culinary optionsright on hand? These range from French crèpes poolside and Caribbean specialities on the beach to Italian favourites
overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the live bands, nightclub and theme nights ensuring the Sandals-style fun never ends.
