Anywhere that can only be reached by boat has an air of glamorous exclusivity about it and Peter Island is no exception. Conceived by a Norwegian millionaire in the sixties, this 52-room whole-island resort really does an excellent job of living up to its idyllic setting. It is sprawled out between Sir Francis Drake Channel and Deadman’s Beach, unforgettable views of coral sands, bluewaters andwhite yachts around every corner.
Indeed, Peter Island is as suitable for the naturalist as it is for the sybarite, its five beaches, hiking trails and dive sites encouraging exploration both above and below the water. The swimming pool, tennis courts and boat trips add to the rejuvenating ambience, whilst the 10,000 sq.ft. spa, complete with swimming pool and marine-based treatments, contributes a whole new
dimension.
The luxurious guest rooms are steeped in Caribbean texture and colour, some overlooking the beach, others close to the pool yet still with views of the marina on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other. Creature comforts include CD players, minibars, fridges and private terraces, whilst the showstopping three, four and six-bedroom villas cater for larger parties, not to mention any passing royalty.
And whilst gourmet picnic lunches are served to guests ‘stranded’ on White Bay Beach, there’s also a beachfront grill perfect for casual dining, as well as the Tradewinds restaurant which serves sophisticated local
and continental dishes enhanced by dramatic views of Drake Channel.
