| Ottley’s Plantation is what St. Kitts is all about. Located 500-feet above sea level at the foothills of Mount Liamuiga, it began life in the 17th century as a sugar plantation and has now been converted into one of the Caribbean’s grandest inns. All the genteel pleasures of a colonial-style Great House are on offer here, suitably enhanced by panoramic ocean views, gourmet cuisine and the kind of personal attention that only comes with attentive on-site owners.
Accommodation is provided by just 24 terraced rooms housed either in the historic main house or in quaint cottages tucked away in the paradisiacal gardens. Appointed in an appropriately traditional blend of chintz, wicker and handcarved mahogany, views either incorporate the distant Atlantic Ocean or majestic Mount Liamuiga. Jacuzzi tubs and
private plunge pools feature in the Supreme Rooms and glamorous Royal Suite Cottages.
Most relaxation-seeking guests find all they need right on the premises. The spring-fed swimming pool, croquet lawn, garden-set spa and regular beach shuttles take care of the days, whilst the contemporary island-style cuisine of the acclaimed Royal Palm restaurant is the highlight of the evenings. But just in case you have a little energy to spare, there’s a floodlit tennis court and hikes through the adjacent rain forest. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a monkey
or two!
