A refreshingly different hotel that is very much part of the north-west coast of Barbados as opposed to simply on it. This 21-suite hideaway has sprung up around the historical waterfront site of Fort Rupert and its 17th century origins contribute a distinctly authentic feel to its fashionably chic ambiance. The original stone fort houses the restaurant and two Fort Suites; other rooms housed in chattel house-style cottages in the gardens behind; six 3-bedroom Vineyard Suites gracing the hillside beyond. Their Caribbean and Bali-inspired décor is enhanced by French doors leading out to terraces overlooking the gardens; their fully-equipped kitchens suggestive of tropical home-from-homes.
Yet such is the popularity of Stephen Belgrave’s Fish Pot restaurant that most guests eschew their private dining terraces in favour of waterfront tables for two. There’s also easy beach access, two swimming pools, kayaks and snorkels, as well as the little addition of The Little Spa, offering Sand & Sea scrubs, massage therapies and body wraps along with a beauty area for those pre-dinner extra pampering touches. However, most guests here are simply after attentive service, immaculate surroundings and, of course, inspired food.
