Constance Le Prince Maurice
CONSTANCE LE PRINCE MAURICE

A distinguished member of Relais & Châteaux, this low-rise resort is hidden away on an isolated peninsula surrounded by three white sand beaches and a tranquil lagoon. Design-wise there can be few more beautiful hotels anywhere in the world, the thatched roofs set off by granite floors and the slate-lined infinity swimming pool backdropped by an impossibly blue ocean. It’s also the only hotel in Mauritius to have eleven of its suites stilted over the water and although you can’t take a dip in the sea à la the Maldives, the views from their private terraces are all suitably tropical.

Otherwise the accommodation is set in gardens overlooking the beach, the balconied junior suites located in 2-storey buildings with a maximum of eight rooms each, the senior suites all individual thatched roof villas with their own private heated swimming pools. Each one is the last word in understated elegance, of course; colour schemes taking on a ‘spice route’ theme, their natural timbers and polished marbles harmonising perfectly with the cream linens and natural fabrics. Satellite TVs, CD/DVD players, mini-bars and pillow menus are standard comforts.

Yet despite these refinements Le Prince Maurice never forgets that its primary purpose is to serve as a tropical resort, its splendid palm-dotted beach enhanced by an infinity-edge swimming pool and the self-indulgent L’Institut de Guerlain. Complimentary activities include tennis, squash and all manner of water sports, whilst golfers will be more than satisfied by the free green fees on the two 18-hole championship golf courses ten-minutes’ drive away at Constance Belle Mare Plage. Scuba-diving, catamaran cruises and deep-sea fishing are on the menu at local charges.

The restaurants also present guests with a delightful choice to make, the seafood and local delicacies of the ‘floating’ Le Barachois restaurant supplementing the informal lunchtime meals of the Beach Deck and the à la carte gourmet cuisine of the poolside L’Archipel. Low-key piano, jazz or sithar music establishes a suitably relaxing night time ambience.
