Simply oozing local colour, charm and character, this traditional private house was once owned by a wealthy Moroccan judge but has now been transformed into a subtly luxurious riad with standards lofty enough for Relais & Châteaux. And whilst the main 1930s house has constantly been extended, updated and refreshed over these past ten years, none of the original ambience has been forfeited; the walls still covered with tadelakt, the courtyards still fragranced with orange trees and the welcome still as warm as you’d get in a private home.
Indeed with its discreet location behind ochre walls right in the heart of the medina you could almost
imagine Villa des Orangers was still a private home. Yet the moment you take your first step inside you
enter a world of five-star pampering; anything from a gourmet French chef to two pools on offer and a total of 27 luxury guest rooms waiting to tempt you. The rooms, junior suites and suites tend to be different shapes and sizes, of course, yet most come with tiled flooring, traditional furnishings and the kind of warm earth tones that are particularly soothing after the medina. Some come with private balconies, others boast access to the rooftop pool, whilst a new wing has recently been added with more contemporary décor and the heady option of a semi-private pool.
Meals are usually served wherever you want them, the shaded courtyards and rooftop terrace overlooking
the KoutoubiaMosque just as popular as the two stylish restaurants. And whilst the Djemâa el Fna Square is less than a five-minute walk away, the spa and hammam are more relaxing options right on site.
