Island Hideaway Spa, Resort & Marina
at Dhonakuhi

This exclusive ‘Small Luxury Hotel of the World’ sits on its own crescent-shaped island complete with lush vegetation, white sand beaches and an adjacent coral reef. It has 43 villas and a whole range of facilities, yet only five per cent of the 1.4 kilometre-long island has been developed, leaving the remainder in its pristine natural state. In fact, the Island
Hideaway is the only resort in the Haa Alifu Atoll, its surrounding waist-deep lagoon stretching as far as the eye can see.

Yet despite this seclusion, the resort remains very aware of current trends. Its villas rank as the largest in the Maldives, each one boasting lagoon views and each one a rustic celebration of its natural surroundings. Tucked into the lush greenery and scattered along the beach line, they stand some 30-metres apart and offer the ultimate in privacy. Their timber flooring and teak furnishings are enhanced by natural cottons and smooth silks, whilst standard comforts
include four-poster beds, garden showers and two-person tubs.

Funa Pavilions (176 sq.m.) and Raamba Retreats (385 sq.m.) have their own gardens, Dhonakulhi Residences (550 sq.m.) feature outdoor Jacuzzi Splash Pools, whilst the Jasmine Garden Villas (705 sq.m.) boast infinity swimming pools and ‘floating’ dining pavilions. The Hideaway Water Suites (235 sq.m.) are stilted over the lagoon and come with private treatment rooms, whilst the 3-bedroom Hideaway Palaces (1,420 sq.m.) are the epitome of sophisticated island living complete with custom-made circular beds and private infinity swimming pools.

Two beachfront restaurants present anything from Maldivian and Asian cuisine to International or Japanese fare, whilst the in-villa and sandbank dining opportunities are tailor-made for romantics. Recreational facilities range from the water sports, tennis courts, fitness suite and infinity swimming pool to the PADI dive school and Hideaway Spa byMandara. Big-game fishing, boat trips and cultural excursions to nearby islands are also on the daytime menu, the environmental research centre and organic vegetable and hydroponics garden underlining this luxury resort’s commitment to protecting its sublime surroundings.
