Half Moon

Half Moon is one of the Caribbean’s most famous resorts. It has welcomed distinguished guests for over half-acentury and has met their spiralling demands with a combination of creativity and style. Yet despite the upgrades and extensions, the crescent-shaped beach remains the focal point and the colonial ambience enjoyed by guests such as Queen Elizabeth II and John F. Kennedy is still there.

The resort stretches across 400 lushly landscaped acres leading down to a private two-mile bay. The leisure facilities are unsurpassed in the Caribbean and include anything from 51 swimming pools, 13 floodlit tennis courts and 4 squash courts to an equestrian centre, a comprehensive range of water sports and a full-service spa with a modern gymnasium. And let’s not forget the championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, which also features a David Leadbetter Golf Academy. You can practice your drive here knowing that your kids are being well entertained in Anancy Children’s Village.

Accommodation is provided by 398 elegantly appointed guest rooms, suites or villas, most of them strung out along the beach front and offering breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea from their private balconies or terraces. Their traditional furnishings suit the colonial setting perfectly, but you are assured all the modern amenities and some even feature their own private gardens and pools. If you need a little extra space, opt for one of the villas which come with four to seven bedrooms, a dedicated cook to introduce you to local delicacies and a private butler to keep everyone in order.

You will, of course, be dining out rather a lot at Half Moon, as there are a total of six restaurants and seven bars spread throughout the property. The main Seagrape Terrace is the perfect spot for a freshly-cooked breakfast accompanied by sea views, whilst lunch means a choice between informal snacks at Royal Stocks, typically Jamaican fare at La Baguette or Asian specialities at Akbar. After dark all six eateries remain open, but you may prefer a change of scene and go for the international dining of the Sugar Mill or the Italian favourites of Il Giardino. The nightly entertainment programme is the perfect finishing touch.
