The globe might have shrunk these past fifty-years, but a journey to the Far East still has the undeniable scent of adventure about it. And with good reason, as even though its luxury hotels and resorts set the standards we expect today, the world outside might not have changed for centuries. Villagers in Bali still make their daily offerings to the gods, monks in Thailand still wear their saffron robes and ethnic tribes in Malaysia are still hard at work in the paddy fields. Indeed when it comes to the Far East it is these ancient cultural traditions that make visits here so compelling. That and the diverse jungle, mountain and beach scenery, of course. Where else can you chill-out on a palm-fringed beach, go white-water rafting on a fast-flowing river and ride through the jungle on the back of an elephant? Add to this stopovers in dynamic cities like Bangkok, Hong Kong or Singapore and you’ll see that whilst the Far East might still be having a love affair with its past, it’s certainly not averse to flirting with the future.
