Desroches is one of the most well-established resorts in the Seychelles and a well-deserved member of ‘Small Luxury Hotels of the World’. This paradisiacal island is just six kilometres long by one kilometre wide, yet it features coconut groves, its own lighthouse and a thriving island village, not to mention 14 kilometres of white sand beaches that you can discover by bicycle or on foot. And if that weren’t quite enough, Desroches also offers some of the best scuba-diving in the Seychelles, a myriad of dive sites no further than 20 minutes’ boat ride away.

Non-motorised water sports like windsurfing, canoeing and snorkelling are here too, as well as deep-sea fishing, boat excursions, floodlit tennis, a swimming pool and the Wellbeing Centre for massages. Yet many people come to Desroches simply to kick-back and the guest rooms are certainly conducive to this. The 20 junior suites blend harmoniously with their surroundings, their polished timber flooring and draped king-size beds enhanced by private terraces with stunning views of the Indian Ocean.

Evenings here are just as evocative, usually beginning with sundowners in the Bar L’Amirante (the sunsets are amazing) and culminating in a Creole or French-inspired dinner in the Restaurant Le Veloutier.
