| Conceived by the same avant-garde hotel company as Huvafen Fushi and Dhoni Mighili in the Maldives, the new luxury resort of Desert Palm has also made its own rules. First of all there is its unique setting, not on the Arabian Gulf, nor in the desert, but amidst the verdant green lawns and graceful palm trees of a privately-owned polo estate located just 20-minutes outside the city centre.
The second innovation is the accommodation, the 24 ‘naturally modern’ guest rooms and villas a distinct change from the opulent design style usually adopted by Dubai’s luxury resorts. Throughout the suites, villas and residences much use has been made of polished timber, local stone and glass, their natural colours and fabrics enhanced by contemporary comforts like flat-screen TVs, CD/DVD players, iPods and wi-fi internet access. And if you want a private swimming pool, a fully-equipped kitchen, an extra bedroom or a private rooftop terrace you only have to ask!
Of course, the resort’s naturally modern approach also extends to its cuisine. Rare offers wood-fired steak and game indoors or on the terrace overlooking the polo field, Epicure serves light snacks by the infinity swimming pool, whilst Red is for those who believe the finest antiques come in a bottle! And when it all gets too much for you, you can retreat to the Lime spa or ask the hotel to arrange anything from waterskiing to a round of golf.
