The two 18th century buildings that make up The Cellars-Hohenort once served as a farmhouse, a manor house, a wine cellar and a country guest house. Yet in 1993 the structures were united and they now operate as a world-class Relais & Châteaux hotel with just 53 beautifully-appointed rooms and suites. The property stands against the wooded knoll of Table Mountain’s eastern slope, its nine acres of gardens evoking both Africa and England, its oak-beamed interiors a visual delight complete with ancient tapestries, warming fireplaces and plenty of chintz. And whilst there are two pools, a tennis court, a gym and a spa on-site, nothing quite beats the gourmet continental cuisine of the glass-walled Greenhouse, nor the authentic local dishes of the cosier Cape Malay. The Martini bar finishes it all off perfectly.
