Cap Juluca

If Cap Juluca wasn’t going to be completely overshadowed by its two-mile white sand beach, its designers had to come up with something pretty special. And they did not disappoint, taking their architectural inspiration from the domed pavilions, graceful archways and dazzling white facades of Morocco. Of course, the interior designs had to be equally dramatic, so the finest materials were sourced from around the world and cleverly set off with natural fabrics and neutral colours. So successful was the combination that fifteen years after Cap Juluca first opened, everyone still sits up and takes notice, not least the gaggle of Hollywood A-listers that continue to rank it as the number one Caribbean escape.

Accommodation is provided by just eighteen Moorish-style villas strung out right along the beachfront, each one housing luxury accommodation that ranges from oversized rooms and junior suites to full one and two-bedroom suites, not to mention a collection of two to five-bedroom villas. Hedonistic daydreams of dual bathtubs and private swimming pools come true in several of them.

But we don’t want to give the impression that Cap Juluca is all about style over substance. It has always enjoyed an enviable reputation for its cuisine, its trio of award-winning restaurants overseen by switched-on Executive Chef George Reid. The signature restaurant Pimms showcases creative seafood dishes with French and Asian influences; George’s offers contemporary tropical cuisine and a weekly beach barbecue, whilst Kemia is a hors d’oeuvrerie and tapas bar with distinct Moroccan influences.

And whilst the resort does primarily attract relaxation-seeking guests, complimentary water sports, tennis courts, a fitness centre, an aqua golf driving range and a swimming pool are available for those who feel guilty being horizontal all day. Those who have no problem with it at all can take full advantage of the afternoon sorbets on the beach and
the relaxing massages of the spa treatment rooms. Of course if you’re the type who feels antsy if you’re away from designer shops too long, then it might be comforting to know that all the cosmopolitan delights of St. Martin lie just a 15-minute boat ride away.
