| Burj al Arab is less a luxury resort and more a once in a lifetime experience. Outside it is quite spectacular, rising up 321 metres from a man-made island connected to the Jumeirah Beach Road by a 280 metre bridge. Inside it is a tribute to both intricate craftsmanship and attention-to-detail, only the finest materials having been used, the textures lavish and the colours exuberant.
It doesn’t have guest rooms, of course, it has suites, all of them arranged over two floors and all of them boasting luxurious bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs. Their opulence is underpinned with technology that does everything from closing the curtains to controlling the plasma TV screens, whilst their floor-to-ceiling windows encourage occupants
to take full advantage of the views over the Arabian Sea. Personal butlers are refinements that makes hotel living very easy.
But to stay here is to be pampered in every way. On the 18th floor is the palatial Assawan Spa & Health Club with its two pools and fitness studio, as well as 18 different rooms dedicated to an almost endless array of beauty treatments. Back to earth at the nearby Jumeirah Beach Hotel there’s swimming pools, squash courts, tennis courts and three beaches, with golf also available on two nearby courses. Dining here is also an event. The seafood restaurant Al Mahara is reached by a 3-minute simulated submarine voyage, whilst a high-speed elevator whisks guests up twenty-seven floors to Al Muntaha and its contemporary European cuisine. Those trying to keep their feet firmly on the ground can enjoy the lavish international and Arabic buffets of Al Iwan!
