ANGSANA RIADS COLLECTION
MARRAKECH, MOROCCO

ANGSANA RIAD SI SAID
Si Said began life in the 1880s as the private residence of the Grand Vizier to the Sultan of Morocco, so forget chic and contemporary here and think more along the lines of opulent and traditional. At its heart lies a mosaic-tiled courtyard flanked by marble pillars and billowing curtains, the striking gold-on-black colour scheme a definite nod to the riad’s royal connections. If you want to live like a favourite concubine why not opt for one of the two suites which come with hand-carved four posters and decadent bathrooms? Or you could, of course, simply float across to the hammam and surrender to the restorative treatments of the Thai-trained therapists. The charming salons and dining areas very fittingly open out onto a ground-floor swimming pool.

ACCOMMODATION: 7 ROOMS & SUITES. ACCESS: 15 MINUTE DRIVE FROM MARRAKECH AIRPORT, FOLLOWED BY A TWO MINUTE ACCOMPANIED WALK. CHILDREN: WELCOME. 3 NIGHTS: FROM £435 P.P. IN THE LOW-SEASON. MEAL PLAN: BREAKFAST INCLUDED. SPECIAL OFFERS: FREE NIGHTS.

ANGSANA RIAD BAB FIRDAUS
Bab Firdaus is a slightly more contemporary take on the traditional Riad. Yes, the hand-woven carpets and custom-made furnishings are all there, but this time they come with stylish fabrics and striking colour schemes that put you more in mind of a 21st century boutique hotel than a 19th century private residence. The whitewashed interior courtyard is adorned with plenty of carved plasterwork and a tempting plunge pool; the fragrant spa even more appealing thanks to its jet pool, hammam and inviting massage tables. Just seven guest rooms are on offer here, the more spacious suites probably the ones to aim for, but all showcasing the exquisite work of local artisans. And whilst adventurous souls will want to experience the medina’s culinary offerings, the rooftop restaurant awaits for those quite content to remain in this delightful sanctuary.
